By Simon Lunn.

"Robert Moran is an inspiration to anyone attempting to realise their dream in the face of unrelenting adversity. This book is extremely well-researched and illustrated and is a compelling read, accessible and enjoyable for non-geologists and geologists alike. "
Robert Moran grew up in California during the oil boom of the early 20th century. He was inspired to become a petroleum geologist and pursued a successful career in the Californian oil fields.
Simon Lunn tells the fascinating story of Moran’s endeavours to find oil in Peru, after spotting a large anticline in the Amazon Basin, whilst evaluating a proposed railway from the air. To succeed, he would have to overcome the enormous challenges of exploring a remote, undrilled area, raising money during the Great Depression and drilling a well literally in the middle of nowhere.
